iTunes was a media player, library, and device management application developed by Apple Inc. It was primarily used for playing, downloading, and organizing digital audio and video files on a computer running macOS or Windows operating systems.

iTunes was also used for managing Apple devices, such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Users could use iTunes to sync media files, backup device data, update device software, and install or uninstall apps on their Apple devices.

However, as of macOS Catalina (version 10.15) released in 2019, Apple replaced iTunes with three separate apps: Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV. On Windows, users can still download and use iTunes to manage their Apple devices, but media playback features have been moved to separate apps.
